In John 4:5-24: Jesus sets a clear message for us in terms of our relationship with those who have been marginalized. We are to reach out to them in a way that they will never have to thirst for life again. It is a call to end the 'isms of life: classism, racism, sexism, heterosexism... so many 'isms that devalue, dismiss and demean people who where made by and in the very image of God. It's is time to drown the 'isms out with the water of life.
A look at what may be the best known Bible verse of all time, John 3:16, through the lens of similar but lesser known verse, 1st John 3:16. This message asks the simple question, "What is the only appropriate response to 'the greatest love story ever told'?"
Biblically, wildernesses aren't so much places where we are punished; the wilderness/deserts are places where we are prepared. Frequently, the time of preparation is symbolized by 40 days. As we enter into Lent, which last for 40 days, it would do us well to ask the question, “for what are we being prepared?” Looking at Matthew 4:1-11, the scripture Lent uses as it's foundation, I take a fresh look at what Lent can mean to us.

Too frequently we think of Lent as a dark time of the soul. It's not. It is a time to celebrate the two-sidedness of the love we find at Easter. It fully engages the reality of the sacrifices love sometimes requires while never loosing sight of the fact that love is a good thing.
